The thing about rest...

There was a point in my life that I loved resting, I would procrastinate important tasks in order to rest, or I would cancel plans in order to rest... until life grabbed me by the ears and hit me with that oh so lovely plot twist...
.... becoming responsible.
Wake up, brush your teeth, wash your face, eat your breakfast, get dressed, go to the gym, drink your water, do the laundry, cook lunch, eat lunch, drink the protein shakes, cook again, eat again, take your supplements, time for a client call, attend class, respond to emails, check in with yourself, get ready for work, go to work, go home, shower, brush and floss, wash your face, drink more water, thank god for another day, and go to bed.
Lately, that's all my life has really looked like.. except for one thing... checking in with myself.
I'm here to tell you stubborn people out there that feel guilty for taking one day to yourself, that you NEED that. You spend so much time showing up for other people and doing the things you NEED to do, granted most of those things are things I can't just ignore like basic hygiene and eating, however, it is okay to take a rest day. It is okay to not schedule calls or check your emails for one day - and to make progress in the gym, there are times when your muscles are screaming at you asking for a break anyways!
Believe me, it's one stubborn mind to another here when it comes to productivity. There is absolutely no feeling that I hate more in the world than going to bed worrying about my clients or classes, or if I pushed myself hard enough at the gym. I strive every single day for that, "I did my absolute best today." thought before going to bed because I have found that nothing is more satisfying than having that thought cross your mind...
but sometimes it's important to have those, "I really showed up and cared for myself today." kind of thoughts..
so just remember,
caring for yourself is nothing to feel guilty about,
but instead,
is just a detour,
a small little reroute.
(the backroads are prettier anyways)
